It weighs .51 pounds. It’s 1.8 inches long. And it’s fast – f/0.95, made for Micro Four Thirds. ZY Optics has announced the world’s lightest f/0.95 lens.

Lens manufacturer ZY Optics has announced the world’s lightest f/0.95 Micro Four Thirds lens. The Mitakon Speedmaster 25mm lens (35mm equivalent focal length of 50mm) features a maximum aperture of f/0.95, weighs only .51 pounds, and is 1.8 inches long.

It features a 11 elements in 9 groups optical design, helping it to control chromatic abberation and maintain image sharpness. It is a manual focus lens, and also has a click-less silent aperture ring for smooth transitions during shooting.

Micro Four Thirds cameras are not known for their low light capabilities, at least not in comparison to other sensors like Super 35 or Full Frame. So having a f/09.5 lens in the toolkit might be something for consideration. And while some may prefer using adapters to attach any lens to a camera, there’s something to be said for using a camera’s native lenses. In this case it just happens to be compact and ideal for quick on-the-go shooting.
