Voigtlander Announces Wide Angle E-Mount Lenses - 10mm, 12mm and 15mm

Voigtlander has recently joined the Sony E-Mount market and unveiled a new range of lenses. These ultra wide angle E-mount lenses will be available in 10mm, 12mm and 15mm focal range.

Voigtlander recently discontinued their Bessa 35mm rangefinder camera and accessories which went with them. However, the brand may have been revamped and is tapping into new product lines. Voigtlander, currently manufactured by Cosina, recently announced that it’ll be launching a brand new line of Sony E-mount lenses in Spring 2016 which will be an ideal fit for cameras like the Sony FS5 and FS7.

The first three lenses cover an extreme wide angle range and are perfect for landscape and architecture photographers. The range is as follows:

  • 10mm f/5.6
  • 12mm f/5.6
  • 15mm f/4.5

There are already a 12mm and 15mm Voigtlander lens, but these are only available for Leica M cameras with Voigtlander’s VM mount.

At this stage, it is unclear whether these new wide angle E-mount lenses will be fully redesigned and possibly improved for high-resolution full-frame Sony cameras, or if they will simply be switching out the mount. However, the Voigtlander 10mm f/5.6 will certainly be a new lens and is not available in another mount at this time.

The new lenses will have electronic connections to properly send lens data such as focal length, aperture, and focal distance to the camera body.

All three of these Voigtlander E-mount lenses will be available in spring 2016. There’s no mention of pricing for these yet, but for reference the current Voigtlander 15mm f/4.5 M-mount lens retails for $749 and the 12mm f/5.6 M-mount goes for $699.
