J NATION . VERTIGO (OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO)
SHOT BYLAWSON LEWIS & ANDERSON ANDREW
“Vertigo was shot on the twin island nation of Antigua & Barbuda in 2014 during one of the longest dry spells the islands have seen in the last two decades, creating some locations that were never before possible to shoot in. A totally dried up Potworks Dam and Valley Church Salt Pond exposing their parched, cracked beds. Also the Hall’s lands which encompasses some of the most beautiful expanses of grasslands in Antigua. These locations were visually perfect to metaphorically represent what we had in mind for the video.
Our protagonist finds himself miraculously beating the odds in the face of extreme adversity and sees this as a sign that he is destined to continue on to his final destination. He sets out on a journey “of life”, a journey that takes him in search for his ultimate plateau which still remains only a dream.
I think that many people will be able to relate to the song in their own way as it’s ultimately about the universal struggle, that every person has with themselves about the reason for their existence in the universe and if they will achieve that purpose which they were ultimately put on earth to do. A struggle that we often, do not admit that we have to anyone else, but ourselves.
Myself Lawson Lewis and another talented filmmaker Anderson Andrew filmed the Vertigo. From a visual point of view, I wanted to achieve a few things. Show parts of the island that most of us have never seen from this perspective and may never see from this perspective again. To create what I call a sense of fictional reality. To take Justin out of the typical tropical island Caribbean setting because we are much bigger than we sometimes think we are.”
