SuperBase 500 on Kickstarter – Convenient Power On the Go

If you work a lot on the go, you know this problem. Where can you charge batteries? How to power the laptop? And what about a cold beer in the evening? The SuperBase 500 is a portable power supply for all your devices and has a bunch of neat features. Let’s take a look at it!

So what exactly is the Zendure SuperBase 500 you ask? Well, the company behind it gives us a few buzzwords to get started:

6 Liters, 57% Smaller than Competition | 600W Dual AC Output | 518Wh Capacity | 3.5 Hours Quick Recharge | 9 Outputs | 60W USB-C PD

So we’re looking at a large, yet portable battery capable of charging your equipment, providing enough power to run a refrigerator or a mixer, and that is rechargeable through multiple sources, including solar.

The Kickstarter campaign is already pretty succesful and it runs until Jan 14th, 2021.

Portable power sources are a thing these days. Filmmakers tend to have more and more gear in their bag which depends on battery power: Cameras, lights, laptops, storage devices, audio gear, drones, gimbals, motorized sliders, monitors, you name it.

The SuperBase 500 packs a whopping 518Wh capacity and is equipped with multiple output ports, including 2x 220V 600W AC power via multinational outlets.

It also offers a 60W USB-C power delivery (PD) output for charging a laptop, all in all the SuperBase 500 sports 9 different inputs & outlets:

  • 2x 12V/10A DC 120W output
  • 2x 220V/600W AC output
  • 2x USB-C output (1x 5-20V / 60W also an input, 1x 5V/3A 15W
  • 2x USB-A output (1x 5-12V/18W QC 3.0, 1x 5V/3A 15W)

You can charge the SuperBase 500 using 5 different methods: solar with the support of an optional solar panel, USB-C, with a car charger or with a DC adapter. If you are using two power adapters (DC and USB-C) the unit will be fully recharged in just 3.5 hours (using the solar panel: 11 hours).

Other features

The SuperBase has some neat tricks up its sleeve: A built-in LED light for example which can act as an automated SOS light as well. It also has protection against damage built-in. It actually is protecing itself against:

  • Overcurrent protection
  • Short-circuit protection
  • Over-discharge protection
  • Overcharge protection
  • Overvoltage protection
  • Thermal protection

The unit is actively cooled using a fan for quick heat dissipation if necessary.

The LCD display shows runtime/charging time remaining in real time and also indicates useful information such as power level, input/output power & charging mode.

The SuperBase 500 weigths 5kg and it measures 215mm (h) x 200mm (l) x 140mm (w). The heart of the unit consits of 56 li-polymer 18650 batteries.

Kickstarter campaign

We are saying this at the end of every crowdfunding-related article: Please be aware of the risks when backing a project on a crowdfunding platform. Please read the crowdfunding platform terms of use. Keep in mind that there can be significant delays when delivering the product. Some projects even don’t get delivered at all.

The SuperBase 500 costs $459 if you grab the super early bird tier and $479 for early birds. There are several other tiers and bundles to be explored on Kickstarter.

Shipping is expected to start in March 2021 but one thing to mention is that the SuperBase 500 will only ship to the US and Canada, that’s because shipping vast amounts of batteries (which this thing esentially is) is pretty restricted nowadays, unfortunately.
