Modern Film Tools Cage for RED V-RAPTOR Released

Modern Film Tools has recently introduced a new 3-piece cage for the RED V-RAPTOR. It features a minimal design, offers several 1/4”-20 and 3/8”-16 mounting points, and grants access to the main controls without obstructing the air ventilation system. It is now available for purchase for $349.

The 8K-capable RED V-RAPTOR has been out and about for a little over 8 months now. We already covered quite a few rigging solutions that are specifically designed for this camera model, including offerings from GDU, 8Sinn, Tilta, and Ignite Digi.

Although a little late to the party, Modern Film Tools has recently introduced their own cage for RED’s flagship camera. Despite its overall minimal design, this option has a few peculiarities that are worth mentioning. Let’s take a closer look.

Modern Film Tools Cage for RED V-RAPTOR

The Modern Film Tools cage for RED V-RAPTOR consists of 3 plates: a top plate, a 1st AC Side plate, and an Operator Side plate. According to the manufacturer, the top and AC Side plates can also be used in a stand-alone configuration.

All three pieces are populated with both 1/4”-20 and 3/8”-16 threaded holes for mounting additional accessories to your camera rig. All 3/8”-16 threads come with ARRI-style locating holes to prevent accessories from accidentally rotating.

Starting from the camera’s right side, the AC Side plate grants access to the on/off switch and recording button. One interesting thing about this piece is that it extends towards the rear part of the camera body, offering side protection for the I/O connectors and SDI ports.

On the opposite side, the simple Operator plate offers a few extra mounting points without obstructing the media card slot and air intake. Finally, the top plate wraps around the camera’s exhaust fan, leaving plenty of room for air to flow. The company claims their top plate is compatible with the GDU Quantum Top Handle that can be added to your setup for a more solid grip.
