LAMBOGO Rugged Wireless SSD – Backup Your Footage in the Field, a Gnarbox Alternative?

The LAMBOGO Rugged Wireless SSD is a storage solution for photo and video shooters with a few added tricks up its sleeve.

For working professionals it is absolutely essential to back up your footage on-the-go. We’re all just one failed, lost, or overwritten card away from being out of a job. But carrying around an entire workstation to copy media can be prohibitive for most solo shooters.

LAMBOGO

The LAMBOTECH Team is hoping to make back-ups as easy with the introduction of their LAMBOGO SSD Indiegogo campaign

The LAMBOGO is a ruggedized, high speed, wireless storage solution that “keeps your data safe and sound with just one touch“. Lets look at some of the features.

LAMBOGO storage capacity and speed

read & write speed

LAMBOGO is available in 4 different storage capacities in 1TB, 2TB, 4TB, and an astonishing 8TB. With a built-in NVMe M.2 2280 SSD (read & write speeds 2,400 MB/s), they claim the drive is 17x faster than a typical external disk.

It backs up media from an SD card or USB Flash Drive at a speed of 320MB/s. Taking only 7 minutes to safely copy a 128 GB card with just the touch of a button.

Wireless capabilities

LAMBOGO

The LAMBOGO drive has built-in WiFi with speeds of up to 900 MB/s. Users can review shots over their phone, and share that connection with multiple devices.

With the LAMBOGO App, users can stream 4K videos with no download time or memory need on their mobile devices.

Battery life

LAMBOGO SSD

A built-in 5000 mAh battery provides enough juice to allow LAMBOGO to run continuously for up to 8 hours.

Its well suited to last through an all-day shoot, and it can even be used as a power bank to charge your phone or other USB powered tools.

Design and durability

The enclosure is relatively light and compact with dimensions of 70mm x 116mm x 27mm and a total weight of just 185g.

Built to withstand a rugged environment, the drive’s enclosure is water and shock resistant. It is designed to repel splashes of light rain, dust, and drops while keeping the hardware protected inside.

Internal cooling system

Cooling

One of the key issues with NVMe SSDs overheating. Initial transfer speeds on the drives are always very high, but as the heat starts to build up they slow to a crawl to compensate.

The active internal cooling system in LAMBOGO helps maintain high performance and improves longevity with a built-in fan to ensure steady heat dissipation. They claim that their anti-overheat protection design will keep the drive around 95o F and running at 2358 MB/s.

Price & availability

Size

The LAMBOGO is an active Indiegogo campaign with early bird special pricing from $159 (1TB) to $891 (8TB), and it currently in the prototype phase.

All in all, this new product might be an alternative to the already established Gnarbox 2.0 SSD (read our coverage here).

We are saying this at the end of every crowdfunding-related article: please be aware of the risks when backing a project on a crowdfunding platform. Please read Indiegogo’s terms of use – especially the section about “Backing a campaign”. Keep in mind that there can be significant delays when delivering the product. Some products even don’t get delivered at all.

Do you think the LAMBOGO is a worthy competitor for more established products like the Gnarbox? Let us know in the comments below.
