Axis360 – 3-axis motorised camera systems Kickstarter

Axis360 - 3-axis motorised camera systems Kickstarter

Despite this campaign having already done a few rounds online and absolutely smashing their goal, I felt it worth highlighting as it has potential to be quite an exciting package.

Cinetics has been around for a few years, first bringing us the CineSkates – a trio of smooth wheels compatible with a pro gorilla pod for table top slides; it was highly successful Kickstarter campaign in its own right. We then saw the Cinesquid, which adapted a gorilla pod to car mounting. The Axis360 is their third major product, and their most substantial – a modular one to three axis motorised camera platform.

Now these systems are nothing new, Kessler has been in the game for years fronting this technology. But this enters and much more budget friendly price range; starting at $395 and with a 3-axis system (pan, tilt and slide) costing you $1,495 (exclusive Kickstarter price).

The modular system breaks down to give you both single and double axis systems. Cinetics Basic, Plus and Pro packages add the pan, tilt and slide functions respectively, giving you the options to choose your motorized axis. Additional packages then include more motors to operate multiple axis simultaneously.

The Axis360 module has a maximum payload of 5kg (11lbs), considering the bracket and ballhead shares this load, expect it to handle no more than a simple Fs700/C300 with light lens. Looking at the ball head, you may want to consider something a little hardier and with tension control like a Manfrotto 496 also.

Cinetics plan to ship their first units to early bird purchasers in May, with all orders a month later. Check out their already very succesful Kickstarter campaign.
