Video Devices Release Pix-E Firmware 3.00

Video Devices has today released their latest firmware for the Pix-E Series of monitor recorders, enabling simultaneous H.264 and ProRes recording.

Pix-E Firmware 3.00 available now

After its announcement at NAB earlier in the year, the new firmware upgrade to 3.00 allows users to record in both ProRes and H.264 formats simultaneously on their Pix-E devices. This is ideal for camera operators and DoP’s who need to deliver daily rushes as small files to directors or producers, and keep a high-quality version for the edit.

The devices will be able to record in 4K in ProRes without a LUT applied, and for a faster workflow, the H.264 is downscaled to 1080p (with audio) with the addition of an applied LUT burnt into the footage, which is recorded onto the SD card.

What is fantastic, is that the upgrade is completely free to Pix-E owners!

When working on large projects, having smaller proxy files for offline editing is a real bonus, especially when you don’t have to transcode the footage. Here, the compressed H.264 files in the .mp4 format can be used, which speed up the editing time (especially if working remotely or on the go).

Because of the compression of H.264, it can also be quickly uploaded online with an applied LUT, for an even faster turnaround.
