Edelkrone likes to think out of the box and here is avery clever quick release system you can use with all your tripods and accessories. The QuickRelease ONE goes with small sized camera setups and attaches to any 1/4″ 20 thread in seconds. In my quick minute review I’m taking a look at the device. After a bit of testing it turned out the QuickRelease ONE didn’t always work with some of the baseplates we used. Basically when the 1/4″ screw you are trying to attach it to is not straight (or you are not attaching the QuickRelease ONE straight), then the QuickRelease ONE will not fit. This happened more than once. Also I found it is not ideal when using it with gimbal stabilisers or bigger camera setups. When you only have tripod plates where the 1/4″ screws sticks out straight and when you’re mainly using your camera merely with a lens on it, then this device might be perfect for you and save a lot of the hassle when working with multiple accessories. The QuickRelease ONE is available at edelkrone now.Read more
OConnor, creator of the $3400 Follow Focus, is showing the prototype of a thing they call the Universal Baseplate which is in fact a part of the reactor of a steampunk airship they brought back from the future. I think that’s why the guy in the video is so nervious and probably why they’ll be selling it for $500… If you checked out the video you will understand that versatility is key on this device and it is designed to adapt to “any new camera you throw at it”. The design is very versatile indeed and some people have obviously cracked their heads open to find ways to put every possible configuration into this thing. I must admit I’m not fond of the allen wrench solution to fix the screw(s) to the camera because I know every nerve lost on set is a valuable one. In this regard I’m a fan of the Redrock dslr baseplate which we reviewed last year in an unfortunate way. The OConnor Universal Baseplate will be available by mid July.
