Edelkrone has announced updates to two of their products that are worth checking out. First, there is the new Pocket Rig 2, a compact camera rig ideal for run and gun scenarios. Pocket Rig 2 It may be a little bulky to actually fit in your pocket, but for good reason. A support arm folds out from underneath the baseplate. It’s fully adjustable and allows you to comfortably shoot from the shoulder or even the hip. They’ve also included industry standard 15mm rods that unfold from the other side. You can easily attach a follow-focus and matte box. The rods even extend about 7 inches (18cm), providing ample space for all of your accessories. A standard 1/4 inch tripod connection hole allows the entire rig to be attached to a tripod. This would come in very handy in hectic environments when one must quickly alternate between handheld shooting and working off the tripod. I can definitely see how run and gun DSLR shooters will appreciate this tool, especially those who frequently travel. Larger rigs often take up a lot of space in gear bags, but this compact rig easily fits into a small camera bag. They also take a few minutes to set up. In a run and gun scenario those few minutes equal missed shots. When I’m shooting I don’t always need a large rig, but I can’t remember how many times I wished I had something smaller that gets the job done. The Pocket Rig 2 is an ideal fit for someone who doesn’t need the bulk of a larger rig, and just wants something to help get that stable shot. And for $289 it’s quite the deal. Pocket Skater 2 The second product Edelkrone has released is the Pocket Skater 2. Weighing in at only 1 pound, this little device is basically a compact dolly for a DSLR. But it doesn’t just move in a straight line. It has 3 wheels that fold out and allow for curved slides. This little device really grabbed my eye. I like small pieces of gear that provide extra production value. When you look at a shot that used the Pocket Skater 2, you can’t tell that it was produced with such a small device. You think it’s shot with a dolly. The Pocket Skater 2 is priced at $249. Not bad for a dolly that fits in your camera bag. Edelkrone is soon to release its new line of Pocket Series accessories, ranging from the worlds smallest camera slider, to compact a rod setup, to handle and grip support. We caught a glimpse of the Edelkrone Pocket Series at NAB earlier this year, a selection of products all offering different features that are designed to pack down to under the profile of a DSLR. All products will start shipping from the 29th December. All are around the same size, the largest being 5.1 x 2 x 1.7 inches (130 x 50 x 45mm), and where applicable all have a load capacity of 6 pounds (2.7kg). Machined from CNC with delrin components and stainless steel screws. PocketSkater The Pocket Skater has three wheels that extend separately. 3 joints per leg ensure that the Pocket Skater is versatile for both linear and curved camera moves. Aluminium lined wheels and bearing ensure a smooth action. PocketSupport The Pocket Support from Edelkrone is a single arm compromising of 5 joints. These can be extended and retracted in a variety of ways including a top handle, chest support and belt clip half monopod setup. Like all of the Pocket Series, the Pocket Support packs down to form factor smaller than a DSLR battery grip. PocketStand The Pocket Stand turns your mirrorless camera or DSLR into a WorldOfTheWorlds-esque 4 legged tripod. The legs are adjustable in a way that enables the camera to sit level on uneven terrain and edges of a variety of surfaces. 3 joints per leg also mean you could mount the camera upside down hanging from a wire. PocketHandles Like all of the Pocket Series the Pocket Handles are designed with no buttons or locks. The joints move freely and as a result the Pocket Handles can be setup in forward or aft positions as well as beneath your camera, or level like a cage. Folding the handles back on themselves turns the Pocket Handles into a table top stand. PocketRods Edelkrone claim the Pocket Rods are the smallest rod setup in the world, and their probably right. As with all Pocket Series, they are compatible to work alongside all other products in the respective line. They’re industry standard 15mm, and are 4.5″ in length; the separate extension pack doubles their length. PocketSlider In true Edelkrone fashion, the Pocket Slider packs more punch than it would seem, offering around 40% more slide action than its physical size. The precise measurement of camera movement is 7.9″, which maybe considered small, tiny in fact. But with a bit of foreground detail in your image, this movement could be highly effective against an otherwise boring static shot.Read more
