Canon 14.5mm-60mm PL Mount Cine Zoom. Canon has announced two new PL (positive lock) mount zoom lenses to premiere at NAB 2011. The wide zoom will cover 14.5mm-60mm with a maximum aperture of T2.6 while the long zoom will cover 30mm-300mm. It is about time that they got back into the cinema game. These two lenses look very promising. Let’s hope they are sharper than the older S16 Canon Zooms. They were soft as butter. Here is a rip from the press release. Click here to read the entire Press Release. “The 2K and HD digital production formats are firmly established in the global marketplace today, while 4K resolution is poised to further propel the imaging quality of digital cine production. Anticipating this exciting evolution in digital acquisition guided Canon’s developments of a new optical platform in recent years to meet the current and future imaging needs of high-resolution camera sensors,” explained Larry Thorpe, national marketing executive, Broadcast and Communications division, Canon U.S.A. “Canon has extrapolated a new optical platform – first seen during NAB 2009 on a working prototype 8K lens – to bring to market these two new PL-mount lenses. Advanced glass materials, exotic new optical coatings, and new computer-design techniques were all employed to achieve significant overall optical performance in these two lenses.” Canon 30mm-300mm PL Mount Cine Zoom.

Canon 4K Concept Camera Source: Philip Bloom I am going to the Canon Expo 2010 this weekend and I wanted to make sure the viewers of C5D News have access to the most up to date information on the Planet! Philip Bloom has VIP status over at the Expo and will be one of the first sources of information. He has already down played the possibility of a 5D3 via Twitter but I still have a hunch we will see PL mount lenses and possibly a Full Frame Video Camera. Either way check out his site for any breaking news. I will be reporting Thursday September 2nd, when it is open to the public. Stay tuned for some cool gear from Canon. Canon 5D MK II PL Mount Anamorphic Lens. The next big step in HDSLR evolution will be Anamorphic Lenses. Cinemods.com is modifying Canon HDSLR’s to work with OCT19 mount lenses. The site is a little vague, but it looks like they will be selling OCT19 to EF adapters as well as OCT19 Mount Anamorphic Lenses. Here is most of the info I could gather from their site. Thanks to Vision Wrangler for hooking me up with this info via Twitter. Shoot them an email to get more info. [email protected] “The Oct19 adapter and Oct19 replacement mounts are US$350 each The Oct19 adapter accepts a number of Oct19 lenses, the Oct19 replacement mount accepts more Oct19 lenses but not all Unfortunately it is hard to say exactly which OCT19 lenses will fit and wont as the same lens sometimes vary slightly in construction from year to year of manufacture” Canon Rebel 550D PL Mount.

Photo By: DCHome Canon Rumors posted this photo of a Canon 5D Mark II PL mount. The mirror has been removed. Apparently it will still take photos and shoot video. There were no real details along with the photo. No mention of lens restrictions on CR. They show the process of deconstructing the camera prior to changing the mount. Very Detailed Photos of the process here. Expect to see more cool items like this coming out of NAB this weekend. Cinema 5D will be there in full force. Look for NAB updates all next week. Hot Rod Cameras President Illya Friedman debutes his new PL mount Canon 7D. Hot Rod Cameras will convert your 7D for just over three grand. You can get a brand spanking new Hot Rod Cameras PL Mount 7D for around 5K. Illya has removed the mirror and replaced it with a sensor gate for protection. The prototype I checked out at Createsphere 2010 looked rock solid to me. This modification should work with other Canon EOS cameras as well. Click Here For Hot Rod Cameras
