The crew over at Cinescopophilia found this great solution to the AGC problems with some of our HDSLR’s. This little number will only set you back around thirty bucks, combined with tone from an ipod and you are ready to rock and roll. Here is a rip from their site.

“The DSLR-AGCY was developed to enable disabling of the Auto Gain Control in Canon and other HD DSLR cameras. This cable allows you to split your audio tracks. One end of the cable is used to stream a continuous tone from an iPod or other mp3 player to the camera. This fools the camera into lowering the audio gain. The other end of the cable is used to connect a microphone or preamp to the camera. Only one channel is recorded but that is easily resolved in post production by deleting the “tone” channel and duplicating your “good” channel. This provides a solution to the cameras’ lack of manual audio controls.”

Beware this review will make you want to abuse your equipment.
Still photographer Ole Jørgen Liodden and his pet Seal posted a cold weather report on the Canon 1D Mark III, the 5D Mark II, and 7d. All cameras came out of Antarctica with flying colors. This guy beats his gear senseless and it comes out unscathed.
Canon 1D Mark IV Beta Photo: J.A.
I got my Hands on a 1D Mark IV for about two minuets today, long enough to take a photo. It is pretty cool to say the least. The camera was set up on a Glidecam Rig and was not that accessible. It has the same A/V output as a 7D and a mini HDMI out. I did get to play with it long enough to scroll around the menus and feel it. I was surprised how light it was. It seemed a bit flimsy, honestly. Â The 1D has both a CF and SD card slot . Hot Swap anyone?
I’m not sold on it yet. At $5k it is not “Cheap” and It does not offer that much more than the 7D or the 5D Mark II.With the possible release of a 35 x 35 sensor 30 plus megapixel 1Ds around the bend. Upgrades to the 5D Mark II, and the ever elusive 3D. It could be worth waiting.
1D Mark IV User Manual
Canon has posted the instruction manual for the new 1D mark IV. Chapter six “Shooting Movies†starts on page 141 if you want to skip to the best parts. Unfortunately the microphone icon on the back of the camera is for voice notes and memos. Here’s a memo. Fix the Audio!
