Steampunk Baseplate for HDSLR

OConnor, creator of the $3400 Follow Focus, is showing the prototype of a thing they call the Universal Baseplate which is in fact a part of the reactor of a steampunk airship they brought back from the future. I think that’s why the guy in the video is so nervious and probably why they’ll be selling it for $500…

If you checked out the video you will understand that versatility is key on this device and it is designed to adapt to “any new camera you throw at it”.

The design is very versatile indeed and some people have obviously cracked their heads open to find ways to put every possible configuration into this thing. I must admit I’m not fond of the allen wrench solution to fix the screw(s) to the camera because I know every nerve lost on set is a valuable one.

In this regard I’m a fan of the Redrock dslr baseplate which we reviewed last year in an unfortunate way.

The OConnor Universal Baseplate will be available by mid July.
More details on the OConnor site.
