SanDisk 120MB/s

With all the buzz of new camera releases last week, it was hard to find time to cover this release from SanDisk. Last month we talked about the Extreme Pro compact flash line getting an update, San Disk have now renewed their Extreme line; upgrading speeds from 60MB/s to 120MB/s.

Unlike the Extreme Pro update, this upgrade is only in reference to the read speed of the cards.  The write speeds of the new Extreme compact flash cards remains 60MB/s, only the read speed has been upgraded to 120MB/s.

Whilst this may not be the most useful update for professional photographers/Canon ML raw shooters demanding high write speeds from their cards, it’ll be a great upgrade for “standard” DSLR shooters and C300 users.

With a write speed of 60MB/s, they exceed what’s needed to record video for the C300 or any of the pro DSLRs. However now users, who find it hard to justify the cost of the un-necessary speed of the Extreme Pros, will now benefit from a fast read speed of 120MB/s to ensure fast wrangling of data when backing up cards.

The cards are naturally available in a variety of sizes.

The San Disk 16G Extreme 120MB/s card is available for $54.95

The San Disk 32G Extreme 120MB/s card is available for $89.95

The San Disk 64G Extreme 120MB/s card is available for $159.95

The San Disk 128G Extreme 120MB/s card is available for $299.95

No word on 4,6 or 8G cards yet, will keep you posted.
