RodeLink 2.4GHz wireless system and NTG 4 and 4+ microphones

Røde has released two new microphones as well as a new wireless system. Starting with the RodeLink, an affordable wireless system operating on the 2.4GHz band for use with cameras and DSLRs. The two new microphones are an update to the NTG1/2s, the NTG 4 and NTG 4+ offer an enhanced capsule, high frequency boost and USB charging.

RodeLink_4

RodeLink_1The RodeLink, like many wireless systems, is made up of two devices, the transmitter and receiver. Both have a built in belt clip for ease of mounting and the receiver also has a removable shoe mount to connect directly to the camera of your choice.

Threaded 3.5mm jack connections provided a locked connection for both your lavalier microphone and output on the receiver end; further security is added through the feature of locking buttons to prevent accidents when mounting to a talents belt for example. The transmitter also exhibits a nice slide design that hides the lock and 3 stage gain adjustment.

RodeLink_3The OLED screen look on the receiver of the RodeLink is a nice feature, offering quick channel information via one touch pairing, it also has a mute override as well as battery information for both devices, ensuring the user remains in control of both signal and power.

Speaking of power, two AA batteries in either device takes care of the RodeLink, which is further backed up by input via micro USB ports.

The 2.4GHz band is good for 100M range, sending 24bit 44.1 kHz digital transmission over a 128-bit encrypted signal. This is different to usual UHF wireless packs that we’re are perhaps more familiar with (Sennheiser and Sony being long adapters of this), there’s pros and cons for both, check out some more info on that here.

Rode NTG 4_2The Rode NTG 4 and NTG 4+ arrive to sit in just above the NTG 1/ 2 entry-level microphones. Featuring a new and improved capsule, the NTG 4 and 4+ will offer superior sound with a couple of additional features.

Most notable is the migration of physical switches to press buttons. These no doubt give the mic and updated look, but some filmmakers who enjoy their creature comforts may scoff at the fact that their best used settings get forgotten. Not to worry however, the NTG 4 and NTG 4+ will always remember the last settings used.

One press buttons with a green LED light ensure quick and easy use, activating popular -10db and high pass features as well as a new high frequency boost function that is designed for use with blimp or wind socks.

The NTG 4+ is exactly the same from a capsule point of view, yet physically longer to accommodate a new rechargeable battery system. The NTG 4+ receives power input via micro USB hidden between the pins of the XLR input. The battery offers up to 150 hours phantom power and can charge in as little as 2 hours.

Despite their superior numeric title, the NTG 4 and NTG 4+ will reside under the RODE NTG 3 in the product line. Here are some specs for the NTG 4 and 4+
