PolarPro Launches New Fused Quartz Glass Variable ND Filter

PolarPro Launches New Fused Quartz Glass Variable ND Filter

PolarPro has released their latest professional filter, a fused quartz variable ND with the claimed lowest refractive index on the market.

The PolarPro VND FIlter

PolarPro has been gradually expanding its line up of professional photographic filters. Last year they started with the PolarPro Quartzline range of ND filters, and are now taking it one step further.

The PolarPro Variable ND

The PolarPro Variable ND filter is made of aluminum and encapsulates two fused quartz glass elements. These two quartz glass elements are claimed to boast the lowest refractive index on the market. Therefore, the quality of materials is in line with other PolarPro filters. This should ensure this VND filter performs well and competes against the best on the market.

The VND filters are available in two strengths, one model providing from two to five stops of reduction (ND4 to ND32), and a second model providing six to nine stops of reduction (ND64 to ND512). They are available in 67, 77 and 82mm diameter.

On the front of the filters, the stop values are laser-etched to precisely align the two fused quartz glass elements and control the amount of light entering the lens. This precise alignment eliminates cross-polarization and vignetting that you can find on some VND filters.

The filters come with both a soft, and magnetic hard case, a DefenderSlim™ Filter Cover, and a microfiber cloth. The 2-5 stop filter retails for $249, and the 6-9 stop filter is $299, no matter the size you choose.

We will be reviewing the PolarPro Variable ND filter in due course. So stay tuned for more field tests and evaluation.
