By: Sebastian Woeber If this is legit it’s gonna change the way we shoot HDSLR: Right now someone called Earz62801 is (update: was) broadcasting via webcam on ustream. He’s answering questions about a firmware hack he claims to be releasing this Saturday. Join the broadcast here There’s still no evidence that the said firmware exists, all we have is this nameless guy’s word, but after listening to the guy for 30 minutes I can confirm that he’s probably not a crackhead but at least knows a little hdslr tech. I can’t think of a motive for a hoax of this kind but please take everything you hear with some grains of salt: Schedule he announced: – Sample video to be uploaded via YouTube channel on Saturday, Jan 1st (test videos by user Dod3032) – 550D/T2i Firmware on Saturday 11:11 EST (download from his homepage which is yet to be announced) – 5D Mark II Firmware on January 11th 11:11 EST. Specs: – 2:35/1 Crop – 24p – 2k for 90 seconds (less pixels @ 2:35/1 but more sharpness than 1080p 16:9 we’re used to) – 3k for 30 seconds – 4k for 6 seconds – 45mb/s – 175mb/s bitrates – no LiveView but hdmi output – manual audio – no heat issues – 7D version tba – longer recording times for 4k coming in future updates – first 2 firmware versions are gonna be free, later probably 50$Read more
