Johan, the inventor of the easyrig developed a new version of his handheld camera stabilization backpack, the easyrig mini which is especially targeted at people like myself when I’m covering a convention like NAB. I was using the easyrig mini myself while making the video above by the way.

I traded in my larger easyrig that I used last year for this one and used it for all the NAB 2012 coverage videos, except Dante’s Prime Circle feature.
The easyrig has become an essential part of my kit to cover an event like NAB and I wouldn’t go without it anymore. It holds my HDSLR rig for me which means I can simultaneously use zoom and focus and on top of that it saves my back.
Very convenient when you’re running around shooting for 4 days, 9 hours a day.

I must also point out that the one downside I could think of is that the spring loaded cable doesn’t run as smoothly as some delicate tilt movements would require. A downside I’m willing to take in return for an unexpectedly smooth and easy camera operation.

If you’re interested in this product which will cost about $1400 the easyrig mini will become available some time in May and can be ordered through B&H here.
