iVANKY USB-C Docking Station Launched - Dual 4K 60Hz Displays for your MacBook Pro

iVANKY, a company specialized in audio and video cables, has just launched a new USB Type C dock for Apple MacBook Pro users: the iVANKY Docking Station. This plug-and-play dock features 12 ports, including four “regular” USB 3.1 Type-A ports, one HDMI output and one mini-DP port that you can use simultaneously up to 4K at 60Hz, and a lot more. The cherry on the cake, this iVANKY Docking Station can charge all MacBook Pros, including the latest 16-inch model. Let’s take a closer look at it!

MacBook Thunderbolt 3/USB-C Dongle Life

Since 2015, Apple replaced all the “traditional” connection ports from its MacBook laptops lineup by Thunderbolt 3 ports. Depending on your MacBook model, you now have from one to four Thunderbolt 3 connection ports and one mini-jack output. These connection ports are used for everything: charging your laptop, data transfer, monitor connection, and so on.

Until recently, I had a late 2014 MacBook Pro laptop with all the necessary output ports. It was a fabulous computer, but I had to upgrade to the latest 16-inch MacBook Pro and discover the joy to carry dozens of adapters, and extra cables with me. But if you use your MacBook Pro as your primary computer, a desktop USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 Dock is a must-have to expend your laptop’s capabilities. With prices ranging anywhere from $50 to $400, there are plenty of solutions already available on the market. Can the iVANKY Docking Station be the best bang for the buck solution?

iVANKY Docking Station Features

Let’s start by saying that if you’re looking for a travel-friendly dock, the iVANKY Docking Station is not for you. It requires AC power, so you can’t use it easily on the road or the plane. However, if you’re on the market for an all-in-one solution for your home or office, it could work for you!

The iVANKY Docking Station connects to your Apple laptop via a built-in USB-C cable that takes two USB-C ports, and it gives you access to 12 connection ports:

  • Four USB 3.1 Type-A ports.
  • Two USB 3.1 Type-C ports, including one with 18W PD capabilities to fast-charge your iPhone.
  • One SD card slot and one TF (micro-SD) card slot.
  • One Gigabit Ethernet port.
  • A 3.5mm mini-jack output.
  • One mini-DP and one HDMI output ports.

The main selling point of the iVANKY Docking Station is that it supports two 4K monitors simultaneously at 60Hz. If you’re working with two 4K displays at home, this may be the right solution for you.

Pricing and Availability

The iVANKY Docking Station is an Indiegogo project. At an early bird price, you can get the dock for $119.00, which is affordable. One of the only other docks that support dual 4K/60Hz monitors that I can think of is the OWC Thunderbolt 3 Pro Dock that retails for around $330.00.

Even if the project is already fully funded with an expected shipping date in July 2020, please be aware that this is a crowdfunding project and not a retail shop, so do your research accordingly. We at cinema5D do our best to share only the projects that look legitimate, but as with any crowdfunding campaign, there’s always the risk of the product or service never coming to fruition.
