Give WIFI to your camera for Christmas

December 19th, 2012 Jump to Comment Section

Don’t do that, better get something worthwhile for a person you like. But to better connect to your camera, you can now do so with Transcends new WIFI SD cards.

WIFI connectivity is something enjoyable as it can make our work on set faster and more convenient.

There’s a companion app for iOS and Android devices that allows users to browse the contents of the card, instantly view images on their mobile device as they are taken, and share content online.

The accompanying free-to-download Wi-Fi SD App then automatically organizes the data on the card into a simple file system which is easy to navigate. The app can be used to browse photos, watch videos, download content, and share shots via email or to Facebook. Wi-Fi-enabled computers can also be used to access the card’s contents via a web browser.

Another useful feature of the app and card is Shoot & View, whereby images can instantly be displayed on the screen of your iOS or Android device as they are taken by the camera. Images can then be downloaded to local memory and manipulated with other apps and shared online.

It can also preview video but the streaming formats are limited and I wonder how it will hold up with the content HDSLR’s produce. Notably it is not compatible with the FS700 but many HDSLR cameras. There’s no information on how fast the cards do WIFI.

The pricing is $49 and $69 for the 16 and 32GB units and they are available at B&H here: LINK
