Gitzo Mini Traveler Tripod – Carbon Fiber Mini Tripod with up to 25kg Load Capacity

At CP+, Gitzo introduced the new noir décor version of their Gitzo mini traveler tripod, a carbon fiber mini tripod that is incredibly light, yet features high load capacities, a detachable head and Gitzo’s patent pending “Pull & Fix” system for easy adjustability on the go. Our own Johnnie Behiri talked to the Gitzo representatives to find out, what is so special about this little tripod. Here’s what you need to know.

Small tripods can be used in a multitude of ways. The more common ones would be vlogging, table top interview setups, or low-angle ground shots, filming from so low a point of view, that most full size tripod won’t be able to reach it, due to construction constraints – scenarios where a Hi-Hat might be used. Gitzo’s mini traveler should excel at all of these tasks.

The Gitzo mini traveler has two leg angles, that can be set using Gitzo’s patent pending “Pull & Fix” system. As you might assume, you don’t have to lift any kind of locking lever, you just pull the leg out, adjust the height and let it snap back into place. This makes adjusting the height considerably faster and easier, than with more traditional systems, that seperate the locking and adjusting step.

The tripod comes with an adjustable ball head, with a non-detachable plate using a 1/4″-20 mount. It will carry loads of up to 6,61 lbs / 3 kg with the tripod itself weighing it at only 0,58 lbs / 265 g due to its carbon fibre leg construction. The ball head can be secured with a sturdy gear lock mechanism at the base of the head. The head itself is detachable and other flat heads can be used to utilize the astonishing load capacity of the legs themselves: 55 lbs / 25 kg. This means the Gitzo mini traveler’s carbon fibre legs will carry almost 100 times their own weight.

Here’s a full spec list of the Gitzo mini traveler:

  • Load Capacity: 6.6 lb / 3kg
  • Maximum Height: 6.9″ / 17.5 cm
  • Minimum Height: 4.9″ / 12.5 cm
  • Folded Length: 8.7″ / 22cm
  • Leg Sections: 1
  • Weight: 9.35 oz / 235 g
  • Ball Head with 1/4″-20 Camera Mount
  • Gear Lock Controls Ball Movement and Pan
  • Carbon Fiber Legs
  • Two Variable Leg Angles

The Gitzo mini traveler is available now and comes in at around $200.00.

Are you excited about the Gitzo mini traveler? What would you use a tripod like this for? Do you think the price tag is too high, or is it justified by Gitzo’s claim to quality? Let us know in the comments!
