Fotodiox Pro Fusion Smart AF Adapter - Canon EOS (EF and EF-S) Lenses on FUJIFILM X-Series Cameras

Fotodiox have launched their Pro Fusion Smart AF Adapter for mounting Canon EOS (EF and EF-S) lenses onto FUJIFILM X-Mount mirrorless cameras. The adapter allows for infinity focus, auto-focus, aperture control and image stabilization (with compatible lenses). It is made of a solid all-metal construction with no wiggle and is available now.

The latest FUJIFILM mirrorless cameras proved to be very capable and compact filmmaking devices. One model that really stands out is the FUJIFILM X-T3, which we awarded as the best mirrorless camera of 2018. In case you missed Johnnie’s X-T3 review, here is the link.

Of course, FUJIFILM offers a handful of native X-mount lenses. Apart from those, there are also adapters that enable using other lenses with longer flange focal distance – for example Canon EOS EF and EF-S lenses. One of those adapters is the newly launched Fotodiox Pro fusion smart AF adapter.

The Fotodiox Pro Fusion Smart AF adapter allows mounting Canon EOS lenses on FUJIFILM X-Mount mirrorless cameras. It works for both, full-frame Canon EF lenses and APS-C Canon EF-S lenses, and allows infinity focus. According to Fotodiox, the adapter features a precise all-metal construction with a solid, gap-free, no wiggle connection on the chrome plated brass mounts.

The adapter enables auto-focus, aperture control, image stabilization and more. Although the adapter can mount any Canon EF lens, not all lenses will perform the same. The lens’ firmware, focusing motors, as well as the age of lens will all affect the speed, reliability and accuracy of the adapter. For some older Canon lenses and some third-party lenses, the auto-focus may even be disabled. Fotodiox says that Sigma, Tamron and Tokina lenses tend to have more issues with auto-focus. Continuous AF and video AF are not supported.

Please also keep in mind that with this adapter, when changing lenses, you’ll need to press and hold the calibrate button while the camera is starting up so that the camera can properly identify which lens is attached.

The word Fusion in the name should represent the high level of communication between the lens and the body. This adapter enables EXIF and aperture data to be transmitted to and controlled by the camera. As Fotodiox claims, however, different lenses may exhibit different operating characteristics, depending on the lens’ age and manufacturer. It is recommended to test individual lenses within the setup before critical shoots.

The adapter includes a micro USB port to allow for firmware updates, which will add compatibility when new Canon EOS lenses become available. You can check and download firmware updates for this adapter directly here on the Fotodiox website.

The adapter can be used with following FUJIFILM cameras: X-Pro1, X-Pro2, X-E1, X-M1, X-A1, X-E2, X-E3

X-T1, X-T2,  X-T3, X-A2, X-T10, X-Pro2, X-E2s, X-T2, X-A3, X-A10, X-E3, X-T20, X-H1.

Apart from Fotodiox, it is worth mentioning there are more Canon EOS to FUJIFILM X-Mount adapters made by Kipon or Viltrox, for instance.
