FCP X this week – So should you sell your Final Cut Studio 3?

With Final Cut Pro X aka Final Cut DSLR+4k+64bit, rumored to be released at $299 this week (and announced for June) it is one possibility that nobody will buy your soon to be old Final Cut Studio 3 at the currently listed $749 anymore. So should you consider selling now, before it’s too late?

It seems nobody can give you a straight answer.

Some people are trying to get rid of their Final Cut Studio on ebay with listings of around 350€ which is really cheap like here or here or here.

While most people only talk about Final Cut Pro X as a standalone release, some others also mention the recently leaked pictures of an update to Apple Motion (via AppleInsider). We don’t know if these are legit, but they make me think things like “Final Cut Studio X” and “upgrade”.

This feels a bit like gambling on the stock exchange, but unfortunately Apple frequently puts us into this awkward position with their sudden product updates, their hyping marketing strategy and the absence of details prior to their releases.

Of course you will also have to ask yourself if you will even need Motion 5 or Color 2, but then again Apple might surprise you with some new features you can’t resist to try, to make sure you give them all your money and still have a smile on your face.

What do you think? To sell or not to sell? Tell us in the comments and let’s gather some more pros and cons.

Here’s a short sample of the new “auditioning” feature in Final Cut Pro X:
