Edelkrone SliderPLUS PRO

Edelkrone has released another line of camera sliders, the SliderPLUS PRO. Available in 3 lengths, the SliderPLUS PRO line is designed for heavier setups providing a maximum payload of up to 14kg.

sliderplus proThe SliderPLUS is an ingenious design, offering a slide action twice the physical length of the device.

The physical lengths of the 3-tier SliderPLUS PRO line are 17″, 21″ and 25″, with a maximum slide travel of 19″, 27″ and 35″ respectively.

The shortest of the 3 takes the largest payload at 14kg, decreasing to 12kg and 10kg with the two longer sliders.

For those that haven’t used one of these sliders before, note that the maximum travel is for when the slider is mounted on a tripod. For ground operation the slider is limited to a figure a little under the physical length of the slider.

So what’s new with the SliderPLUS PRO in comparison to its standard line, the SliderPLUS v2?  Aside from the lengths and payload, not a great deal has changed. You get similar square bars to the v2 (v1 were round), but the PROs are grey aluminium (over black). You get the same locking system, which also seems to only operate when the carriage is in a central position. The device is easier to strip down for maintenance however, and there is a visible difference in the construction of the carriages. The top 3/8″ thread very cleverly tucks away for travel with a push and a twist. Speaking of travel, all SlidePLUS PRO units ship with a neat carry case.

All SlidePLUS PROs remain compatible with all of Edelkrones motorized modules, and use micro adjusting feet that (although isn’t confirmed) look like they offer a similar amount of adjustment to the previous SliderPlus v2 line (around 5mm).

I’ve used the original SliderPlus, and had my reservations with the product, mostly down to slide consistency and lack of mounting options. The former was not explored fully at the time however, so this could have been down to mis-configuration.

Sadly the latter has still not been addressed with this product, the underside of the SliderPLUS PRO still only provides a single 3/8″ hole for mounting; this simply doesn’t offer a proper mate with your grip (legs or tripod head). Cheese plate style designs are much more welcome with the likes of Kessler and Cinevate systems.

The SlidePLUS PRO line starts at €579,99, with units shipping within 3 weeks from the point of order.
