Cine Gear Expo LA 2020 Has Been Cancelled

Cine Gear Expo LA 2020 Has Been Cancelled

Edit: The cine gear team has just issued a written statement saying that this lovely exhibition is now cancelled with a reason in mind of “protecting exhibitors, sponsors, partners, staff and visitors from the spread of COVID-19”. With yesterday’s cancelation of IBC, it is now very clear that 2020 will be remembered as a very different year, one that might has changed our filming industry for ever!

Below you will find our original article from a few weeks ago:

As the major trade shows make decisions to either cancel or postpone, Cine Gear seem to have held off on making the decision, or at least the announcement until now. We reported before on the news that Cine Gear were looking into options later in the year. Now it’s official, Cine Gear is postponed until October 2020, at least for now. Time will tell if it’s pushed out further.

The official dates given are October 1st – 4th, and the delay in announcing this may well have been finding an available slot at Paramount Studios. The current dates are less than a month after IBC 2020, however we have yet to find out if IBC will also be postponed.

The full impact of a very disrupted trade show schedule globally on manufacturers will be interesting to watch. There are always new products to launch. While meeting with dealers, distributors and end users in person is historically a core component of how the industry has always functioned, there are more ways than ever to launch products and marketing drives virtually online. This is why we’re running our cinema5D virtual show.

What may be even more interesting is to see if there is a lasting shift after 2020 into 2021 and beyond. As investment in new gear and solutions across the industry may well experience a dip this year, everyone will be looking for ways to reduce costs, and trade shows are costly both for exhibitors and attendees.

For more information and updates keep an eye on the Cine Gear Expo website.
