Bumble Bee 25-C - New Pocket-Sized LED Fixture by Hive Lighting

Hive Lighting has just introduced their most portable omni-color LED light fixture, called Bumble Bee 25-C. It can be controlled using Hive’s S.H.O.T. system via a smartphone app or DMX. The light provides a powerful, high-quality output in a very compact and lightweight body, which is compatible with many light-shaping accessories.

High-quality lighting contributes to the cinematic look of a video more than the actual camera used. This is an important sentence to think about when considering the next gear investment. LED lighting technology has advanced significantly and omni-color lights are getting smaller, more powerful, and have better color rendition.

One new product that proves this is the Bumble Bee 25-C from Hive Lighting – an innovative US-based company. You might remember their more powerful Wasp 100-C light or the Bee 50-C and Hornet 200-C LED lights. Let’s take a quick look at this new, compact omni-color LED light.

The Bumble Bee 25-C is Hive Lighting’s most portable light. It weighs 1 lb (0,5kg), has a diameter of 4″ (100mm) and a length of 2.5″ (63mm). It draws 25 watts to produce a light output comparable to a 150W incandescent light fixture.

The light has multiple mounting points for easy rigging to cameras, drones, practicals, stages and sets. The Bumble Bee 25-C can run off a battery (via 12V XLR input) or universal wall power. It features 0-100% dimming control, which is flicker-free at all frame rates, thanks to pure DC dimming.

The Bumble Bee 25-C uses LED Omni-color technology. By using a combination of primary, secondary and tertiary colored LEDs (red, amber, lime, cyan, and sapphire), it creates a more complete and even spectrum than traditional RGBW technology. A proprietary algorithm combines the five different colors into a high-quality white-balanced light and millions of saturated color combinations. The 25-C has a color rendition index of up to 98 CRI and 97 TLCI.

As all of Hive’s lights, the Bumble Bee 25-C utilizes the S.H.O.T. control system. It allows users to adjust the saturation, hue, output, and color temperature. The ability to change every color setting results in millions of dimming and color combinations to customize lighting for any production scenario. Also, S.H.O.T. can be accessed remotely via DMX, or via the free Hive Lighting smartphone app for iOS and Android.

Alone, the Bumble Bee 25-C is a 180-degree flood light. It features multiple mounting points to accommodate Hive Lighting’s various fresnels and reflectors with optional drop-in lenses and barn doors. Furthermore, full-sized or mini Leko attachments can help in shaping the light output. Thanks to the 4″ (100mm) diameter, the 25-C also accepts all Profoto accessories and Profoto adapters for light modifiers.
