Bright Tangerine Drumstix Titanium Rods

Bright Tangerine Drumstix Titanium Rods

Bright Tangerine – a company that is mostly known for its high-end matte boxes/follow-focuses/titan arm – just announced a new complementary accessory to their line-up: the Drumstix titanium support rods. Available in 15mm and 19mm diameters, let’s take a look at these new lightweight (yet robust) set of rods.

Harder Lighter Stronger

Usually, 15 or 19mm camera rods are either stainless steel, aluminum or carbon fiber. Stainless steel rods are industry standard. They are robust, don’t bend, yet they are a bit heavy.

Carbon fiber rods are lighter and also quite rigid, but especially long carbon fiber rods can break when used in cold environments.

Finally, aluminum rods are prone to manufacturing tolerance issues (at least from my experience) and can bend more easily.

Bright Tangerine decided to follow another path. The new Bright Tangerine Drumstix rods are made of titanium. Titanium is a very light material, in fact nearly twice as light as stainless steel. Also, titanium is extremely strong and corrosion resistant: the ideal material for filmmakers on the go.

If you ever traveled with camera equipment by plane, you probably understand the importance of saving weight. The same principle applies if you experienced the pain of climbing a mountain with Pelican cases and backpacks full of gear. Camera rods are not the first thing you think of when needing to save weight, but every piece of kit can count.

The new Bright Tangerine Drumstix rods are effectively lighter than traditional stainless steel rods and stronger than carbon rods. They are available in 15mm or 19mm versions. Bright Tangerine claims that the Drumstix rods are built to 2-micron tolerance.

In terms of length, they are available in your choice of 3″ to 18″ long. Note that 3″ and 6″ versions are available in 15mm rods only.

The Bright Tangerine Drumstix are available to buy in single rods or pairs. In terms of price, they are a bit pricey, but like every Bright Tangerine product, they are “high-end” rods. Pricing in USD, per length, is just below.
