Avid Artist DNxIV – Portable Multi-Platform IO Video and Audio Interface

September 25th, 2017 Jump to Comment Section

The Avid Artist DNxIV is a portable interface that gives you professional IO for both video and audio.

Developed in cooperation with AJA, the Avid Artist DNxIV is a smaller and more portable version of the Avid Artist DNxIQ rack unit announced earlier this year. It features a number of inputs and outputs for both video and audio, such as 12G SDI, HDMI, analogue audio input, and audio output for 5.1 or 7.1 surround monitoring.

In terms of video, the Avid Artist DNxIV supports capture, monitor and output capabilities for SD, HD, 2K, UHD, and up to 4K. On the audio side, one of the things that differentiates it from some of the other products available form AJA is the inclusion of an XLR analogue audio input with phantom power, supporting both microphone and line signals.

Avid Artist DNxIVPower is supplied by an industry-standard 12V 4-pin XLR connector, further highlighting its intended professional – rather than prosumer – target market. The unit connects to the host computer via a USB-C connector with Thunderbolt 3.

Despite being an Avid product, the Avid Artist DNxIV is compatible with other editing software such as FCPX or Adobe Premiere. No matter your setup, you should be able to use the DNxIV for anything from outputting video to professional grading monitors, to surround-sound mixing, and recording voice overs straight to the editing timeline.

The Avid Artist DNxIV is expected to retail for $2,999 once it becomes available in mid-October.
