600fps for $1000 – but the JVC PX100 won’t do it in HD
Last year Sony showed us a semi professional slow motion camera for under $7k with their Sony FS700. What an exciting announcement that was. And we’re back to dreaming with JVC’s tiny 600fps beast. Unfortunately it is very likely that we will not see HD at that framerate.
The camera seems tiny and so is its sensor which is 1/2.3″ (11 millimeters) in size. You sure won’t get focal any depth into your shot with this one, not even with the very fast f/1.2 lens they equipped it with.
This is more of a camera for scientific purposes and fun like we’ve seen its kind before. While the camera does 1080p at 60 frames per second there’s no mention of the resolution at 600. So no HD here.
From the press release:
Premium performance is further assured by the fast F1.2 lens, 1/2.3” 12.8 megapixel back-illuminated CMOS sensor and optical image stabilization. Five shooting speeds are available, ranging from 120fps to 600fps
