The ALC (Automatic Level Control) is running at +36dB !

It looks like the default is an input of -39 dB, so +36 dB gain might be about right.

Also there is a wind-noise filter in there somewhere (probably labelled as a HP filter or hpf).

I've called the function at 0xff856454:
Code: Select all
void audio_set_windcut( int enable );

Also interesting is the function MVR_NotifyLenseMovement() at 0xff85014c that appears to call sound_dev_noise_reduce() at 0xff858054 when there is an auto-focus event. It looks like it drops the AGC slightly to soften the focus motors from being picked up.

referrin to the finction above "void audio_set_windcut( int enable ); " since theres a parameter "enable" declared, would defining it to 1 or 0 enable and disable it respectively ? and does it mean theres a loop always checking enable ?

Thanks Hud

The menus have confounded me all night, but I did figure out how to update one menu item, the sub_version_string at 0x11F9C in the rwdata segment.

This is helpful in that it lets me know when the camera has rebooted into the normal firmware, which appears to happen after every powersave. That is going to be a problem until we have the AUTOBOOT.BIN file working on the CF card.

Great work Hudson, even more so the fact you are modestly ignoring the issue of taking donations ;) Is it likely that a similar thing can be achieved for the 500d? I can't afford a 5d mkii but 720 30fps is ideal for my needs in any case. Full manual control would make me a happy man though.

Great work. I just got my 5D today. I hope manual control is on the way. Still hope canon releases it with a firmware.
If you believe the stories about 5D's on hollywood sets, they must have a better firmware.

I also got the 500D and O M G.. We should sue Canon for its Video ability or call it disability. The video is NOT usable if you dont film from a tripod.
The wobble and RS is horrible.. The 5D also has some scaling wobble but its almost not noticable.
