semi DIY rig

semi DIY rig

Postby kalleo on 24 Feb 2010 14:34

Some time ago I was shooting a music video and I desperately needed cheap shoulder rig for 7D so I decided to do it by myself. I already had a SGBlade so I figured that I could use rod support from SGBlade and add a couple parts what I had at my home.

I know it's not pretty but it worked fine. Next thing is to find some nice and pretty parts to do version 2.0

Handles are actually from my old handmade bass guitar stand. It was the only aluminium I had.

Looks slick. Doesn't it sit just a little bit low though? LCD must be below eye level when shooting.

I like it that way now because I don't have a viewfinder yet. I guess I need to move camera a bit higher when using viewfinder.

Well the SGBlade costs about 1000 € so it's not the cheapest "DIY" rig. Other parts (handle, bolts, etc.) cost a couple euros.
I posted it here because I thought someone might have some inspiration about the setup. Similar parts like the rod support in this can be found on many places.
I still use the SGBlade with XH-A1 so I was thinking of buying some Hangrip parts and use those to do a modifiable rig system for both 7D and XH-A1.
