Magic Lantern 0.1.6 problem short shooting time

Magic Lantern 0.1.6 problem short shooting time

Postby Bigredfirecracker on 02 Jan 2010 20:22

I've been testing ML for some time to determine an acceptable way to connect my rode shotgun NTG-2 into the 5d, up to this point it has been working fine.
I'm planing to shoot some doco interviews with the camera once I'm confident I've got the right setup.
On the test interview, ML crashed the camera each time after about 2mins. If I stopped and started the record every 2mins or so (just before i thought it was going to crash) it was fine.

Anyone else experienced this ?

I'm using the kit lens, canon battery, no external monitor.

I think the idea of ML lite is a goody, just to get rid of the agc.

Cheers

I have the same problem.
I just want to capture usable audio on camera.
If I was just making cinema I'd be happy syncing up an external audio capture, but I am in local TV production and I often shoot by myself.
However the short length I can capture with ML has me seriously considering an external audio device. I need something with usable XLR inputs.
I've read it's pretty easy to sync it up with PluralEyes.
I'm waiting for THE firmware update to make a decision.

There must be some people that are running ML without a problem.
The future could be a bit grim firmware wise. Any change in the firmware, say to get the much needed frame rates, will probably not work with ML and I very much doubt canon will change their mind on the AGC.
How frustrating, everything is so close to being great with this camera, but I guess their were really not thinking about what we are using it for when they design it.

I wonder if cameras will end up like computers (and some phones), able to freely run 3rd party apps that extend their usability endlessly.

Would it be that hard or be asking that much for Canon to at least allow us to turn AGC on or off in the menu?
Really! I fall within their target user group and I really cannot use it as they intended with AGC on all the time.

I totally agree!
If it were Apple or Microsoft they would just contract Tram and give him the resources to make firmware that would keep them so far ahead of the rivals, but it seems there is more political motivation here.
Do nothing more than it takes to keep the camera selling, and I'm guessing they are.
Canon probably feel pretty comfortable in their market position, and thus are trickling out the technology.

perhaps they are working on a Red One killer, they have most of the technology.
add sensor cooling, xlr jacks, pro res support, and work on the rolling shutter a little.
I always wondered way canon didn't bother updating the XL h1 to tapeless or improving the codec from muddy old hdv.
maybe they will whack a 7d sensor in there with cf card slot and ef lens mount
