I expect the default gain set to maximum makes sense when the AGC is switched in, but without it we would ideally like the attenuation/amplification to sit at 0db - ie: no gain.

The ALC (Automatic Level Control) is running at +36dB !

Also there is a wind-noise filter in there somewhere (probably labelled as a HP filter or hpf).
