This may sound weird but i think its hard to say which one is better... i see like "what do you want it for?"
i think having motion control is more usefull, more pro and better. But its 3 times bigger and heavier than the glidestrack...

I personally want to buy one... and havent been able to decide which one.. i need to see them with my own eyes...and not only in photos! do you guys know where can I see both of them in real life in Los Angeles?
Thank you all and happy new years! :D

Also, how could the CineSlider sit atop two C-Stands at each end with full leveling capability?
Would something like this Avenger F810 work?

We are working on a turntable solution, but not sure yet if it will be based of the motorized controls for the sliders or the pan/tilt head we are working on.

The CineSlider has 1/4" & 3/8" tapped holes on each end of the slider. I wouldn't recommend mounting to C-Stands only though.

created, I think this is exactly the piece of equipment I have been looking for.
It looks very well thought-out and well built. Can't wait to start testing it out!

I am really looking forward to the motorized option for timelapse, do you know
when that will be available? Also I sent you an e-mail regarding the 100mm Bowl
connection, wondering when that will be available as well. I believe
both of these will make the Cineslider an amazing tool.

I saw the order come through, thanks. I don't see your e-mail, so you may have sent it to the "info" address, which Eric monitors. Eric may have already responded, but the motor control should be available before the end of 1Q. The 100mm High Hat should be available within 2-3 weeks.

Hi Chris,

I just put in an order for the Pocket Dolly recently and my decision to go with that was partly influenced by the upcoming motorized control.

I was about to put in an order for a Mizar motorized mount as well, until I saw this post of yours. Are you able to give more details on the pan/tilt head you mentioned? And would the motorized control for the PD be available in the same timeframe as the one for the cineslider?

Thanks

Chris, on that order that I just placed for the cineslider, I forgot to include the 100mm bowl mount option.  Can I add this to the same order as my cineslider so that I don't have to incurr another separate shipping charge?

We are working on the motor mount prototype for both the Pocket Dolly and CineSlider right now, so we hope to be able to release them both around the same time. The plan is to be able to use the same control box (joystick) for both the slider motor control and the pan/tilt head to help keep the cost down for those that need both units. Some of the functions we are working on include: movement record/playback, timelapse, deadband/deadspot control, variable speed control and more. As we get closer, we will be providing regular updates through Facebook, Twitter & our website.

I have Alastair's GlideTrack and really like it. As for the smoothness, I haven't had any real difficulties. I have the 1m length one though, and I have to admit, I am thinking about buying his smaller one as I bet its easier to carry around. Especially useful on those nature outtings when you are carting things through the mountains.

YMMV of course. Just thought I would add my experience to the mix.

Is there is a big difference between Pocket Dolly Basic and Pocket Dolly? I mean is this little something, which you can use to move your camera is really important? Or you can move also great, smooth move with your hand? You know, is it worth to spend more money to it.
I want to use it in horizontal and vertical position so it's important.

Ok, for example, i'll buy Pocket Dolly with Hercules 2.0. I can mount this Hercules on a tripod (tell me which one is good and cheap, cause this one from Kessler is really expensive). Than to this Hercules mount Pocket Dolly and i can move this slider smoothly in many positions? Finally, i need to buy some other head to mount in on a slider, which one should i buy, cheap and smooth? ;-D And to mount this head I need Flat Mount Adapter?
And what i get if buy this Pocket Dolly with Hercules? Just these two thing + Giottos Quick Release Plate & Receiver?

Qucik Kesller Q: Can you mount the slide on an ordinary tripod/head/FVH in the middle? Or do you "have" to get the hercules head, or use a monopod on one end (and a tripod/head on the other end)?

I viewed the Kessler vid and wasn't too quite sure.

The difference between the two Pocket Dollies is the belt and handle. The Pocket Dolly is smooth sliding it by hand, but the handle helps with the very slow precise movements. The Hercules head will mount to a 100mm bowl tripod. The main thing you want to make sure of is they are stable legs, so they don't wobble with the slider on it. If they are light weight, you may want to weight them down.

The Flat Mount Adapter is need to flat mount a fluid head on top of the carriage. Many customers use something like a Bogen 501 or 503 for this.

The new rails for the Pocket Dolly have a 3/8" tapped hole in the center, as well as the mounting holes for bolting to the Hercules head. For center mounting we strongly recommend mount to the Hercules head for the best stability and functionality. By only threading the Pocket Dolly to a tripod in the center, you can strip out the hole when putting weight on either end, if not supported. When not mounting to the Hercules head we recommend supporting from both ends using the 1/4" or 3/8" tapped holes available on both ends of the rail.
