i am flattered that you guy like my "superflat" preset so much
BUT
I found that switching to "NEUTRAL" with sharpness and contrast all the way down, and saturation 2 notches down, gives a slightly better result as the "superflat"

as neutral as possible... style it in post

Honestly, I think it largely comes down to taste. It's very much like the world of still photography: do you like to carry around several different film stocks, select what you like for a shot (Velvia on a landscape, Portra on a portrait) and shoot it with that decision in mind? Do you like to carry around a nice digital camera, shoot in RAW, and then painstakingly create your ideal image in Photoshot?

To me it's somewhat the difference between being fully 'in the moment' vs 'recreating the moment'. There are advantages and disadvantages, both obvious and not obvious to each approach.

From a strictly technical perspective, I still throw my opinion behind Picture Styles. The camera can (or at least SHOULD... any confirmations either way on this?) process the image in a higher bit-depth space and, certainly, prior to compression. Once you have the files on your computer it is something like adjusting an 8-bit JPEG, which of course you can still get great results with.

Considering that Velvia film is daylight balanced at roughly 5500K, would that also mean that the Velvia Pf2 style should be shot at a 5500k WB in order to achieve an accurate Velvia color emulation? (For example; When Velvia film is shot at night under sodium vapor street lights, the image produced is overly saturated in high contrast warm tones. However, when cooler tones of light are mixed in with the warm tones, the cooler tones hold a separate color balance without being negated by warmth; specifically blue tungsten light. So should I also be able to achieve a similar effect with the Velvia style you created if I shoot at 5500k?

Yep =)

In general I tend to stick to the tungsten and daylight WB presets regardless of what picture style I'm using. The color tones can be quite appealing and give a better sense of the space in which the photos were taken.

I like the idea of using the custom picture styles to get the look you want right out of the camera. I have a shoot coming up for a model's portfolio that requires a fast turnaround on the edit. I don't want to spend a bunch of time grading in post. I did a quick test of the styles, kodachrome and velvia, side by side with standard and neutral. I still want to experiment with a couple more styles, but so far I'm liking the kodachrome for the kind of look I'm going for.

I've updated Fuji Reala with an additional tone curve sampling point to deal with Picture Style Editor's wacky curve formula.
