Flying a 5D over Aspen Mountains

We're sorting out issues with wing-mounted 5D. Controlling high speed moving action seems to improve with lower Digic load.
Shot this without gyro stabilizer. No stabilization in post processing. What settings are best for the 5D? We're running -1, 1, 0, 0

Trying to post a reply but it didn't make it the first time.

Aircraft is a Cessna 180.. The mount is a modified ARRI mount that was STC'd for this 180. The long arms of the ARRI mount did not work. Too much vibration. The arms are now about 10 inches long, plate aluminum, amazingly solid, as the recordings show.

No rolling shutter detected and no compression artifacts that I can see, but perhaps someone does?

Wow, Looks great. Nice and smooth. Well done.
Can you show some photos of your mount and rig, please...?

Off the topic, is it OK to fly that close to mountains with flying regulations in America???

Thank you.

Thank you.

I don't have a picture of the camera mount. The aircraft is local though, and I hope to be out there again soon.
In some instances 1,000 feet from people and property will keep the flight within rules, which the pilot assures me we were.

We're trying fast moving terrain to determine if compressor artifacts make the footage unusable.

Appreciate everyone's comment, suggestions and info.

This looks great for a wing mount. It's neat to see the shot mimic the plane's actual pitch & roll. Looks like fun! Love to see a photo of the rig mounted the next time you go up.

Thanks.. The mounting rig is refined.. The original STC'd ARRI mount worked great, I'm told. This new lighter, smaller mounting solution works. I suspect part of the magic is we're tied very much near the spar of the wing, where it meets the strut. This triangle made up of the wing spar, strut, fuselage are very stable.

how do you upload a picture here?

If you want to link to photos just copy and paste the url of the picture into a message, highlight the text and click the 'img' button. This will add tags so it should look like the orange text below:
Code: Select all

OR

If you want to upload it to the board as an attachment, there's a tab below the message entry area - 'Upload Attachment' - click on 'choose file' and find it on your machine, then click 'Add the file'.

There doesn't seem to be a rule about which method is preferred. I think attachments make more sense for things like picture styles that are intended for others to download.

Alex - what is your email? Do you have a production company in Aspen? I would love to be in touch directly. I live in Denver and my film making partner is in Telluride. I get up to Aspen a fair amount. I have worked with Bruce and Jane at EcoFlight out of Aspen. Is this who you flew with? I would love to check out your mount on the 180. We have shot a lot from planes and generally just gaffer tape our HVX to where the strut meets the wing on high wing planes. We have also shot from Steme's - self powered gliders, with incredible results thanks to their insane glide ratio. Last time i was looking at planes at aspen i noticed a few on the tarmac.

Cheers,
Travis
