cinema5D.com came to life in September 2008 when dslr’s with video functionality started to appear on the market. For some this was a revolution in the low budget filmmaker’s world. And meant new technical advantages for amateurs and pros alike. Still, there was no place on the net to discuss and share knowledge about it, so I decided to build one, and so I raised cinema5D.com.


I’m a director and camera operator myself and I’m always searching for possibilities to extend a picture’s quality and expressiveness. Video dslr’s, especially the Canon EOS 5D markII (with it’s big sensor) brought shallow depth of field into the game of low budget filmmaking and compact cinema shooting for pro’s. This forum is dedicated to the many new things that dslr filmmaking brings.


Since February 2009 we run ads on cinema5D to support maintenance and expansion costs. We follow the idea of mainly investing into improvement and gain little and no profit so your help and support is much appreciated. Programmers, journalists, people with connections to the industry you are very welcome to join us.
