This is a very special (sixth) 50 minute episode of ON THE COUCH, in which we had the pleasure of hosting my friend Rodney Charters, ASC, best known for his work as director of photography on “24″, “Shameless” and now the new “Dallas”, Bruce Logan, ASC, best known for his work on the original TRON, the original Star Wars films and Batman Forever, as well as the owners of Zacuto, Steve Weiss and Jens Bogehegn – both of them shooters with decades-long experience in production themselves!
Zacuto is being talked about for several of their newly introduced products, but the Gratical HD EVF is certainly the most impressive one.
Jens gave me some details on the new, extremely compact OLED viewfinder that was presented as a prototype at NAB. It sports a resolution of 1280×1024 which is not too far away from full HD. The aspect ratio is 4:3 which they used to conveniently display all...
With NAB just around the corner, things are starting to hot up with manufactures keen to present their latest products, Zacuto being at the forefront of the hype. We will cover this product more at NAB, but here’s a sneak peek at the Zacuto Gratical, a high resolution micro OLED EVF. Watch the above video.

Zacuto recently posted the above video with Panasonic representative Matt Frazer and Zacutos own Steve Weiss and Jens Bogehegn to bring us an insight into the Panasonic GH4.
For those who have been avidly following news of Panasonics latest 4K offering, not a lot will surprise you. However interestingly Steve Weiss from Zacuto hints at a new product, which could be huge....
The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema is a very unique camera, it has a fantastic image quality to size ratio; one that’s fairly un-challenged with other cameras straight out-of-the-box.
However, like many cameras it’s also one that benefits from the addition of third party applications. Battery solutions, audio devices, external monitors all contribute to making the camera more useable in the professional field.
These can often bulk the camera up, past the point of being “pocket friendly”. This is the main selling point of the camera; it provides cinematic quality images in a package that fits in your pocket. It’s therefore great to see third party products that stay true to this form factor, increasing its function or usability without deterring from the core values of the product....
Here we have 7 different EVF mounts, or viewfinder mounts, also used as monitor mounts. These dear pieces of equipment are utilized to hold your EVF in the correct place when working with a handheld rig. Not all of them are great. Here’s a review that shows you the functionality and usefulness of each of the devices. ...
Zacuto wanted to look at ways of making the follow focus a more ergonomic and effective product for single operators. Two years into production and the Z-Drive is complete; a direct drive, compact angular follow focus unit....
Zacuto have just released a nice looking new product – The Axis, a 360-degree adjustable universal EVF mount.
The Axis is designed to mount via Z-Rails, which are the same fitting as NATO, SWAT, RED, PICATINNY, and WOODEN CAMERA rails....
