EOSHD reports about new samples of the Chinese KineRAW cinema camera. A probably more affordable alternative to the Arri Alexa that looks equally if not more bulky and also records at 12bit 2K RAW.
The picture above is an uncompressed screenshot from one of the clips. The screenshot can be downloaded here:

The RED Scarlet-X 4K camera isn’t naked anymore
Individuals and companies who took the chance to buy the RED Scarlet-X early could either cover the rear pins on the camera with an accessory like the Redmote (controls camera functions wirelessly) or leave these pins exposed. Many weren’t comfortable with that thought and asked for a rear cover to protect the back of their precious 4K film device from dust and weather.
We’ve just received an early production version of the $20 RED back cap.
It is a simple mold made of plastic and it fits our Scarlet-X nicely.
The cap should cover the more expensive RED Epic camera’s back just as well. It will be available at red.com soon. We’ll let you know when its up....
This is a comparison of image detail between the new Canon 5D mark III, 7D and RED Scarlet-X @4K and @2K
This test turned out pretty interesting: When comparing the image detail of Canon 5D mark III to RED Scarlet-X footage @ 2K mode, the 5D mark III matches and almost outperforms the Scarlet-X. (recorded 2K, scaled down to match HD)...

In the Beginning
As many DSLR shooters move to bigger and better cameras – with bigger and better recording formats – many of us will run into unforeseen problems when applying our tried & true DLSR workflows. Unfortunately, what works well for DSLR footage might not be the most efficient way to handle other codecs. This is important to consider, and particularly true, when switching to RED footage not because it’s overly difficult, but because the initial switch can get fairly costly and chances are your old workflow will be needlessly and massively time consuming. Fortunately, there are a few things you can do to alleviate the burden, saving your wallet, your time, or both. Read on: ...
Some time has passed since we’ve started looking for a useful Scarlet-X rig. If you’re serious about working with a camera like the RED Scarlet-X or the Canon C300 you’re in need of a rig that will fully support and make use of the ergonomics of the short...
When we had our first 1 day no-budget Scarlet-X shoot two weeks ago (see short and field report here) we bumped into one major problem: Backing up the data on this MacBook Pro via FW800 just took too long (30 minutes for a 64GB card) and we ended up not having a second backup (!).
This is a situation you simply can’t have. If that backup dies the work (and money) that went into that shooting day dies with it.
Read on for the solution to this problem: ...
