ikan D5 – 1280×800 monitor review
The smallHD DP6 monitor has been a quite successful product with filmmakers over the past year. At NAB many booths had cameras equipped with exactly this monitor. Granted there are not many alternatives in terms of size, quality and price.
Another fine field monitor that is frequently used these days is the famous TvLogic VFM-056W. It also holds a high quality 720p panel.
DSLR News Shooter took ikan’s new D5 for a spin. It matches the other mentioned monitors in terms of quality, price and even holds some nice additional features. Definitely a product worth checking out when you’re looking for a field monitor for quaity HD field work.
Specs:
- 1280×800 pixels IPS panel
- adjustable false color
- peaking with red outline
- DSLR scaling
- 3G-SDI & hdmi input
The ikan D5 is available in two versions. The advanced version is the D5W that features a waveform, RGB parade, and vectorscope.
The ikan D5 is $900:

The ikan D5W retails for $1080:

Every now and we find an indie company with a filmmaking background make a cool product for HDSLRs. This one got funded on Kickstarter within 18 hours…

Car Mounting Made Easy: CineSquid
Last August we’ve reported about the CineSkates, a gorillapod on wheels.
This was a very innovative invention and now, half a year later, Cinetics have taken the product a step further to a place that I think is currently a market niche.
