Get Down With Vince, Philip, Shane, and Tom. Elf-Yourself.

[vimeo]http://vimeo.com/17604832[/vimeo]

By: Jared Abrams

Here is a little video I picked up from Planet 5D. It is not really “News” but worth a little chuckle. Elf-Yourself is a neat little way to share some Holiday Spirit. Here we have some of the top names in HDSLR jamming to disco tunes. Vincent Laforet, Shane Hurlbut, Philip Bloom, and Tom Guilmette all get down in this one.

Sebastian Wiegärtner will be teaching a German Speaking HDSLR workshop in Hamburg, Germany November 27th, 2010. There is a 15% discount right now if you register soon. The cost of the workshop is 299 € and 249 € for students.

Here is a rip from his site.

“Shooting with DSLRs really is a different way of working if you are coming from traditional video or even photography backgrounds. One has to work around these cameras’ quirks in order to reach their huge potential, which can result in images that are practically indistinguishable from shooting on film stock. In terms of practical on-set work, it is more similar to working with a film camera than a traditional video camcorder, and this definitely has to be trained.

I will teach you everything you need to know about these cameras, and more importantly, how to use them properly and efficiently in different set situations. You will learn the gear inside and out! The workshops are sponsored by Carl Zeiss Lenses, Genus, Letus DSLR, Kessler Crane, Denz. You can use all the gear of these great companies and try them out in different set situations.”

Philip Bloom Tests The Panasonic AF-100 Camera.

[vimeo]http://vimeo.com/16000333[/vimeo]

By: Jared Abrams

Philip Bloom got his hands on the new Panasonic AF 100. I must admit that this camera is looking very promising as a great film making tool. It should be compatible with most lenses via some type of adapter. Philip will be testing this camera for a few days. Here is a quick low light test at 3200 ISO. Here is a rip from his site.

“I will do as much testing as I can, unfortunately the timing is not ideal as I have a shoot tomorrow so I won’t get a chance to do anything with it. But first impressions are good. I have shot a little footage at 3200 ISO and it looks pretty damn good! Great to have features on the camera that I miss SOOOOO much on my DSLRs.

Great to have a 4 setting ND filter wheel. Great to have a really good quality waveform, XLR inputs, zebras, headphone jack (!), the list goes on and on…stuff I struggle with not having on my DSLRs.

First thing I did, despite my hideous jet lag was a quick and dirty low light test. In the devastation that used to be my kitchen I set the camera to 3200 ISO, stuck a Leica M mount Voigtlander 50mm 1.1 with Fotodiox adaptor (costs around $900 for the lens, an amazing lens), used a box of matches and a fat cuban cigar (smoking is bad, only lit it for the piece…mostly!)”

I am going to the Canon Expo 2010 this weekend and I wanted to make sure the viewers of C5D News have access to the most up to date information on the Planet! Philip Bloom has VIP status over at the Expo and will be one of the first sources of information. He has already down played the possibility of a 5D3 via Twitter but I still have a hunch we will see PL mount lenses and  possibly a Full Frame Video Camera. Either way check out his site for any breaking news. I will be reporting Thursday September 2nd, when it is open to the public. Stay tuned for some cool gear from Canon.
