Leica’s first full frame HDSLR – M240 video capable?
Leica M type 240- video review.
(Non of the written here is relevant to the photo section of this camera)
Deep into the 4th year of the HDSLR revolution Leica released the M 240, their full frame camera costing $6950.
Spending a day with the camera left me wondering, was Leica ever talking to any professional cameraman before implementing HD recording for this unit or just decided to “join a trend” without really meaning this camera to be a capable working video tool?.
In my opinion the video quality coming out of the camera is very disappointing and its operation in video mode is not easy/logical. I hope features/video quality can be enhance with a firmware update.

New & capable full frame HDSLR by Canon: The EOS 6D
Canon just introduced a new full frame DSLR camera. It comes at almost half the price of the 5D mark III and offers very similar HD recording features. So it comes with the usual HDSLR bling bling like manual audio, 25p, 30p and so on, the Canon rep on the phone said that movie recording is “same like on the 5D mark III“.
The press release also talks about the HD recording side of the camera which makes it look like a pretty capable HDSLR.

Unfortunately, for whatever reason, Canon doesn’t seem to post any high resolution screenshot at this time. The best we’ve seen is this 1024×432 screenshot (as seen below).

RED Scarlet-X – test short film
I might be mistaken but I believe this is the first short shot on a RED Scarlet-X.
We shot this on the same day as the car chase test. It started out as an acted scene test to put the new RED Scarlet-X into real life, shooting intense, on-set conditions, but in the 3 hours we had it turned into a small short film.
Hence there are several mistakes in it which we were not able to flat out because daylight was gone.
In the following I will describe how the Scarlet performed under these conditions, what worked, what didn’t work. I’ll call this a field report:
