SXSW Day One. Killer Video By Misa Garcia.

By: Jared Abrams
Misa Garcia put together this killer day one video. He really is one of the best filmmakers I have had the pleasure of working with. We are in Austin for the SXSW Film Festival. To be totally honest we are completely out of our element here. It’s like a mini Mardi Gras. A total party! We have been getting tons of great interviews for our documentary about the validity of film festivals as a way to market and promote independent films. We will get them up soon.

The Whistle Bait. Panasonic AF100 PL Mount, GH2, 5D, 7D.

By: Jared Abrams

We have been working on the Whistle Bait Project for a while now. This is some footage we mashed together for a trailer for a short documentary about this really cool vintage genre. Misa Garcia of JAG35 has been promoting the Whistle Bait and wanted to capture the feel of what it is like to go to one of these shows. We used a bunch of cameras for this trailer. The opening and ending was shot with a Canon 7D with a Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 Zoom Lens on a Glidecam 2000. The interview of Misa Garcia was shot with a Canon 5D Mark II with a Canon 70-200mm f2.8 L series lens. The wide shots of the band were shot with a Panasonic GH2 with Canon FD lenses. The medium handheld shots were shot with the new Panasonic AF100 with a PL Mount and Zeiss Super Speed Lenses. This combination worked very well to show off some of the old and new cine style digital cameras available now. The GH2 shows a lot of promise in the micro 4/3” format. The Panasonic AF100 with PL mount lenses is one badass combination.

Here is a rip from the article by Chris Marino on Wide Open Camera.

“The front runner was the new Panasonic AF100 camera. This was supplied by Birns & Sawyer Hollywood and they pared the Panny with a set of Zeiss 35mm PL mount Super Speed lenses. At a maximum aperture of T1.3, they are the winners in the low light game. Not to mention the legendary optical performance of Zeiss motion picture lenses. Dan Chung brought his new Panasonic GH2. He had it pared with a Canon FD 50mm F1.2L and a Panasonic 20mm F1.7 lenses. This is the new M4/3″ mirror-less camera that shoots 1080p. What was really cool about these Panasonic mirror-less cameras is that it allows you to essentially mount any lens on the camera. Giving you the flexibility to get the right look for the story. Misa Garcia was roving the crowd with the Canon 5DMk2 and a Canon 35mm F1.4L. We were shooting at wide open apertures and at ISOs over 1250. I was really impressed with the performance of the AF100 with the PL mount. The form factor of the camera made it easier to get low & high angle shots with ease. And the PL mount Zeiss lenses were ultra sharp wide open with little to no breathing.”

Tatto Doc BTS With JAG 35

[vimeo]http://vimeo.com/16113456[/vimeo]

By: Jared Abrams

Misa Garcia from JAG 35 shot this little BTS video from a short documentary we are working on with Dave Hatton from The Velvet Grip Family for my personal website Wide Open Camera. We used multiple cameras with JAG35 rigs and tested out their new on board battery and Monitor X  viewfinder. It was great to work with the manufactures on this shoot. We were able to give Misa direct feedback about his gear. The crew over at JAG are filmmakers like us and it really shows in this killer video they put together.

Here is the rough cut Trailer for the Short Doc.
