IBC 2011: New camera accessories by ARRI – ff, mb & shoulderpad

Philip Vischer, product manager of Arri showed us some new accessories they have for smaller cameras like HDSLRs or other large sensor babies like the FS100.
The MFF-1 follow focus is a great device that has it all, the new MFF-2 will combines the features of other great follow focus solutions by making the knob exchangeable. The third knob Philip shows allows for different gear translation thus resulting in a better speed for photo lenses.
The MMB-2 is a lightweight mattebox that also allows you to attach handles on the sides. This is particularly useful when there’s no space left on the rails, notice that the handles are a little short and might not fit everybody’s handheld style.
Arri now also has a shoulder pad, the SP-1 which can transform into a cheeseplate and they also have new, specialized baseplate mounting adapters for the FS100 and ikonoskop d2 cameras.
See the press release here.

IBC 2011: FLOLIGHT CycLight – simple, effective greenscreen light
Flolight is a California based company that produces affordable lighting fixtures and I must say from what I’ve seen they’re not bad at all. The LEDs they showed at IBC had a noticably high CRI (color rendition index = good light spectrum) and high output and the fuorescent fixtures looked solid as well.
The CycLight is a special tool for those who want to quickly light a 2×3 meter greenscreen and want to forget the hassles of greenscreen lighting.
In the video the greenscreen background looks very “untidy” and wrinkly, but in defense of Flolight I must say that this was a prototype unit and they really just put a provisional green cloth up there with some ducktape. I think the final product will be quite useful.
1000€ ($1350) and available in November. They have a British reseller for European customers.
You can see and buy the other Flolight products on their website.
