"NEXT" Canon screening event on Sunday…
NAB 2012 is about to start. And it will be kicked off with a bang.
Canon has been quite busy recently throwing a lot of new cameras at us. The 1DX, the 5D mark III and just recently the new EOS-1D C and EOS C500 cameras that introduced Canons move into the 4K cinema world. This Sunday at 5pm they will “present the next chapter in the Canon story”.
As always cinema5D comments are filled with high expectations and Canon just can’t seem to make most of us happy. As far as I’m concerned they could show a 5D mark III film at that screening and I’d be happy, because I think the tools to make great movies are here, now, but they will probably blow us away with first hand EOS-1D C and C500 footage and make us want to buy them. Maybe they’ll even let us touch the camera’s dummy shell. cinema5D is invited to the screening and will definitely let you know what’s going on.
Following the screening NAB 2012 starts on Monday April 16th and as we did previously at NAB 2011 and IBC 2011 we’ll walk the huge NAB show floor and talk to all the people and companies who present their newest gear. We can tell NAB 2012 will be very exciting so make sure to stop by now and then. This is the most exciting tech time of the year and HDSLR will surely dominate NAB again.
You can see all our previous event coverage videos in our vimeo channels:

PS: I’ll try to get twitter working for that screening, but I’ve got limited time, coming from the airport. Follow me here: @c5dnews
Countdown to Canon event: Canon EOS 300C s35mm camcorder?
[tminus t="03-11-2011 23:00:00" omitweeks="true" style="carbonlite" /]
Well there’s not much time left until we know what’s going on here, but what we know for sure is that we’ll see a nice cinema camera today.
As usual there’s more and more info leaking prior to the event and creativevideo.co.uk (via cinescopophilia) has added a placeholder (as seen above) to their lineup of cameras in store which they’re calling the “Canon EOS 300C super 35mm camcorder with EF lens mount” and they threw in a slightly altered old picture of the 4k hairdryer we’ve seen last year at Canon Expo.
- EF lens mount
- Dual CF Card Slots
- Built in ND filters
- Super35mm Sensor
- HDMI and HDSDI output
- Hot shoe mounted HD monitor
- Dual XLR audio inputs
- Full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution
- Full HD uncompressed output via HD-SDI connector
cinema5D will bring you all the info on the Canon event and the RED Scarlet announcement later today. Stay tuned.
Countdown to RED Scarlet announcement – where u have to look
[tminus t="04-11-2011 02:00:00" omitweeks="true" style="carbonlite" /]
From the RED press blog:
On November 3rd at 6pm PST, details surrounding our third camera SCARLET will be announced on REDUSER.net and RED.com.
Technical specifications, shipping, and purchasing information will be revealed, putting to rest all of the lingering speculation and anticipation.
The announcement will take place just 3 hours after the Canon Event in Hollywood. Are they using that time to consider their price tag?
According to Philip Bloom we’ll be able to place RED Scarlet orders just 1 hour after the announcement, at 7pm PST, this is Nov 4th 2am GMT.
More rumors on Canons Nov. 3rd event
As you know the day after tomorrow Canon will hold a media event at the Paramount Studios in Hollywood.
They call it “historic” and all the rumors point to a very satisfying new product, or in fact several of those!
Here’s what canonrumors wrote:
“I was also told that we’ll see at least two compact cine lenses, and possibly a third”
- Price: sub $15,000 – possible down to $10,000
- Image quality: Alexa good
- SDI outs
- XLRs (audio)
- Piviting & detachable monitors and grips
- PL mount and EF mount options
- Resolution – 4k capture, 2k recording

There will be no DSLR announcement on November 3, 2011. This is a video only announcement. However, there could be “EF” and “EOS” branding involved.
I was told Vincent Laforet has been shooting promo material with the new camera in the Los Angeles area. However, he was NOT shooting with a DSLR.
Unfortunately cinema5D is too far away from the event (we’re based in Austria), but we’ll get all the coverage we can find, I’m sure there’ll be plenty.
The event will be held on November 3rd at 5pm UTC (10pm GMT).
Don’t forget RED. They announced that they’d be announcing the final specs of the Scarlet camera, in a way a direct competitor to the rumored Canon cinema camera(s).
I read that orders for the Scarlet start on Nov 3rd at 7pm PST (Nov 4th 2am GMT), so we Europeans will have to stay up late that day. What a rush.
