cinema5D had a chance to test the new Sony F55, Sony’s new flagship 4K cinema camera. As a reference we used Canon’s most advanced HDSLR.
The F55 is an interesting camera, because it is one that ticks more boxes than any other camera over the past few years – the range of resolutions, frame rates, codecs as well as the ergonomics are unprecedented. Now it’s down to actually using it to make a judgement call.
We wanted to know how the camera performs in a normal sooting environment and took the Canon EOS 1DC 4K HDSLR with us for comparison. Some interesting conclusions can be drawn here, things you might consider if you plan on shooting with either of these cameras or would just like to see what to expect.

The Canon C300 has just been significantly reduced in price. B&H sent out a notice announcing a $2000 pricedrop.
Even though there is competition for the C300 with the introduction of the C500 and low priced C100 the C300 fills an important slot with its internal All-I codec and SDI connection possibilities.
There’s more competition from Sony with their new
Canon finally released an official fix to the colour fringing problem. So far affected cameras had to be sent in for service.
Canon’s large sensor video cameras including HDSLR’s were never perfect from the start, but eventually Canon always fixed something. You might remember that time when the Canon 5D mark II had no manual mode and we had to cope and lock down the automatic mode somehow (Good old times…). We observe that eventually Canon delivered manual mode. ...
The 25p firmware rumored this week is a reality, but it won’t be coming before April.
The 1DC is causing a lot of buzz on the net due the nice videos coming from the camera both in 4K as well as in super35 crop mode.
With 25p this camera will be one hard to beat rival in the affordable large sensor camera...
We’ve had high hopes for the Canon EOS 6D as a full-frame HDSLR camera. Could it bring the 5D mark III’s HDSLR video strengths at a much lower price?
Looking at the beta EOS 6D we’ve had here in our office it looks just like we don’t get the same from it as we got from the 5D mark III.

Running the IBC show floors for several days and talking to some hundred people here gives you a pretty good picture of where the technical side of the digital film shooting business is going. We’re not quite at 24 cameras per second yet, but the speed at which new movie making tools hit the shelves seems both incredible and crazy.
One of the most serious players in this game is Canon’s new C100 camera that gives all the beauty, ergonomics and technology of the C300 into the hands of low level shooters.
Just like Arri Canon is often underestimated in terms of what they offer. Their products might be missing some features, but give us a complete working package with fewer and fewer compromises.
To show off the style of their entry level eos cinema camera Canon chose to equip young french filmmaker Sebastien Devaud with a C100 and send him out to shoot some very cool footage. The result was released today and is a wonderful mix of nice imagery and vivid action with a GoPro style to it.
The video is a cool represantation of the C100′s power, but the way in which the director Sebastian greeted us and showed us the footage directly on his iPad was even cooler for me. Thanks Sebastien for the nice chat!
Here’s Johnnie Behiri’s interview with Sebastien Devaud on shooting with the Canon EOS C100: ...
Isn’t it incredible, we get a new cinema camera by the week! Canon just announced a new entry level version to their acclaimed eoscinema line-up of cinema cameras. After the C300 and the promising, more high-end C500, we indie filmers get the C100.
While everybody’s waiting for their Blackmagic Cinema Camera and after Sony has launched their EA50 shoulder-camcorder style large sensor camera, Canon had a surpise up their sleeves. Let’s see what the dedicated for indie filmmakers EOS C100 has to offer....
