Apertus AXIUM progress – 175fps @ 4K, under $10k
The image on the left depicts the prototype of the ongoing project named “AXIOM”, a camera by people who are passionate about creating a strong competitor in the quickly growing 35mm digital cinema camera market.
We reported about the AXIOM camera in July when the project was first made official which they had started work on in 2006. They are now in the next phase of their project with a soon to be finished prototype which is exciting news.
Apertus personally stopped by at our office and discussed their project with us in detail. I can tell you that these are very dedicated people and they seem to have all the parts together to create an exciting camera.

edelkrone’s interesting new slider concept
edelkrone, the Turkish DSLR-rig manufacturer, has come up with a very interesting slider concept. A slider that lets your camera travel longer than the slider actually is in length.
edelkrone’s new funky invention isn’t cheap at $499, but the mechanism is an intriguing idea. When used on a tripod the slider can travel 1.7 inch (52cm) even though it’s only 1.3 inch (39cm) in length.
The way this works is that the slider base has a second slider sled that works in conjunction with the camera plate like a pulley tackle.

But what about Sony’s 4K FS700?

When the Sony FS700 came out they also announced a firmware update to unlock its 4K mode, making the camera “future proof” in a way. With the F5 and F55 Sony also announced the 4K solution for the FS700, but this looks a lot more costly than expected.
Recently the prices for Sony’s AXS-R5 recorder leaked on Sony’s Japenese coming in at about $5800 excluding tax (after Yen conversion). Apparently it is also necessary to get a special module called HXR-IFR5 (as seen on the left) to get 4K RAW via 3G HD-SDI out of the FS700 (at 59.94p max).
