It's All There in Color!

By: Jared Abrams

I can confirm that this is all 100% on the level.  No 50/60fps, but we will get manual audio control and a histogram! No mention if this will also add updates to the 7D or 1D Mark IV. The release date will be sooner than March 17th. We could see it as early as March 15th, 2010.

I am happy!!! Finally it happened!

  • 2bcool2:

happy bout the 25p, audio control .. cool … but i was hoping for 60i for slow mo … even the cheap t2i has 60i …. but the more expensive 5d2 doesnt :-(

also i want canon to srt out the hdmi out , i hate the 3 sec black screen when recording with ext monitor and i hate the squish picture when you press rec

good … but could have done better ….guess magic lantern will do what canon should have … soon i hope

  • I wonder if it will fix the HDMI Monitor bug as well? Where once you record, it doesn’t go blank for 3 seconds or something like what I’ve read somewhere?

  • galdino:

so does this mean that there will be no 60fps?

    • Me:

Why do you keep on talking about this 60 FPS like it was the end of the world. Make some real movies, and do some real s*** before you start demanding crap like this. The 5D was crippled before it gets 24 and 25 fps. The camera is for indie filmmakers, and it is the second coming of christ, when it comes to this….but 60fps? What do you need it for? Skateboard videos?

      • Me:

….no seriously…sorry for being so harsh….got carried away…but the really exciting thing about this cam, is that it is shooting full frame! Just like the real deal! For no price! I´ve worked in the (PAL) business for 12 years, and this is absolute godness, just to be able to shoot in my native framerate. We´ve been waiting for this for 30 years! Nevermind the slow motion. It is so far between seeing slowmotion stuff in movies.

      • Well. IDK about the other guy, but now I know I’m going to be looking for 60fps, because yes, for skateboarding videos.

  • Joe Womble:

Any idea if the 30 fps is actually 29.97, or if 29.97 is offered in addition?

  • rmpstudio:

    AV and TV.. nice :)

  • george:

no 50/60p what does that mean workflow wise?

  • agent55:

Ooh this is exciting, as a 7d user i can only expect Canon will eventually bring the audio fix to us as well. The sooner the better Canon! Sweet!

    • Keyword ‘eventually’. How long did it take them to implement this one change?

      • agent55:

I’m hoping that this 5D firmware is a sign that canon has officially “woken up” and has taken steps to satisfy all the videographers who are buying their products. If that’s the case, I would expect more prompt action from them (regarding firmware) from here on out. They are after all way ahead of the competition in the HDSLR market and their reputation is in a place were it’s probably never been with videographers (maybe since the XL1 days?). If they’re smart and want to continue to build on/maintain that rep, they’d be wise to keep this momentum going. Heck, just think of how many more 7D’s will sell if it becomes clear to people who are on the fence that you can now record good audio direct to the camera!

    • Edd:

Well, we(5D users) did suffer from a long wait for the 24/25p while you were all happy about the 7D! If Canon were fair, they wouldn’t just give you everything the more expensive camera has. Although, you’ll get it eventually. Probably sooner than we how it was for us.

  • I do hope that people don’t forget Hudson’s Magic Lantern R&D that probably contributed an awful lot to Canon deciding to give us what we wanted. Well done mate!

  • Edd:

I sure did want 50/60p, but manual audio and histograms kinda makes you not having to boot up magic lantern every single time.

    This is good news!

  • If this happens then I wonder if you can monitor sound

and monitor vision with HDMI too

Makes the 7 need an update on the sound front !

    Good job!
As a soundengineer i was dreaming of 24 bit-recording, but this is still fantastic news, thanks!

  • Great news! Will this come standard then on all 5d’s after the release date?
