In depth, nice and personal Canon C300 video review

Not that we haven’t been flooded with C300 reviews already (link, link, link, link, link, link), but I would like to present this one in particular as it’s done with a lot of love to detail, well conducted and nicely filmed in a similar fashion as we like to be doing the video reviews here at cinema5D.

HD Warrior is a blog by Scottish video producer Philip Johnston. Go pay him a visit.
Personally, I like to hear some Scottish now and then and I think most of the 21 minute review is well done and enjoyable, although one could certainly argue that the video portion in the middle doesn’t do justice to the camera.

The C300 is still available for pre-order and I read it will start shipping on the 1st of March which is roughly a week from now. But I have no confirmation for that and I can only guess that a lot of people have pre-ordered already.

Andrew Reid from EOSHD has conducted a very nice and honest review about one of the currently most interesting video capable DSLRs: The Sony NEX 7 (body currently $1199)

Reid expresses mixed feelings about video quality:
“The NEX 7 is a real mixed bag. At times it has wowed me with a dynamic range and colour that seemed to be the best on any DSLR video mode including the 5D Mark II. Other times I felt the GH2 and 5D Mark II would have produced nicer results.” More…

The internet has become a great way to get your creations out there into the wild. Vimeo has been a great asset for filmmakers and the vimeo awards take that idea a step further. The ultimate platform for indie filmmakers.

Here’s a great quote from the 2010 awards by hugely successful indie film producer Ted Hope (as seen in video above):
Indie film isn’t dead, maybe the business model is, but truly independent film is just on the brink of being born.

This is your last chance to submit your films to the vimeo awards. The deadline is tomorrow, February 20th and the awards will be held in June.

Here’s are the 2010 nominees for narrative, mentioned in the video above: More…

Is Adobe CS6 imminent? – CS5.5 Production 53% off

I just received news that the Adobe CS 5.5 Production Premium suite is 53% off (link).

It loos like the end of the CS5.5 life-cycle is near, despite the fact that previous rumors and the NAB show in April would make a May 2012 release more credible.

Adobe hasn’t said much about After Effects or Premiere CS6 yet, but they have released a blog post about the top feature requests for CS6 in the field of interest online section.

As Jeff Riegel put it: “I don’t think anyone can make any future buying decision on a blog post (and an upgrade that addressed all 16 of these requests would be beyond huge) but it seems likely that this is more than a subtle hint at what we might expect out of AE CS6.”

Top 16 After Effects feature requests:

• import of AAF files
• keyboard shortcut editor [hopefully better than the one in Premiere Pro]
• Vector Paint effect
• grouping layers in the Timeline panel [Yes please!]
• variable-width mask feather
• saving projects backward so that they can be opened by a previous version of After Effects
• scopes (waveform and vector) [should be there already]
• better handling of image sequences
• extrusion of vector graphics
• GPU/CUDA acceleration [double Yes please! Mercury engine in AE]
• scaling: better algorithms and ability to choose
• nodal compositing [To really play with the big boys]
• custom zoom values
• import of 3D objects
• After Effects for Linux
• bones and inverse kinematics within Puppet effect

Adobe has recently also shown off some new features for Photoshop CS6 including “Content Aware Move”:

Now the final question that remains to be asked is: Will CS6 be cheaper if you buy the discounted CS5.5 with a later upgrade to CS6?
