Blackmagic MFT Camera & 12mm f0.95 SLR Magic Hyper Prime

January 6th, 2013 Jump to Comment Section

Blackmagic’s Cinema Camera tester John Brawley has uploaded some shots of the MFT (micro four thirds mount) version of the camera with two ultra highspeed lenses.

On the left you can see the new 12mm SLR Magic Hyperprime (LINK) that sports a nice f-stop of 0.95. John Brawley has been an early tester and because Blackmagic still hasn’t been able to start full production of their Cinema Camera (announced for summer 2012) he’s one of the few sources for actual footage from the much sought-after moviemaking machine.

Alongside the 12mm Brawley also used the Voigtlander Nokton 17.5mm f/0.95 as seen on the bottom left (LINK).

The day shots are all with the SLR magic 12mm and the shots after sunset of the reeds are the 17.5mm Voightlander. This was shot RAW and with a single node of correction. All handheld with no rig.

An f-stop of 0.95 is one stop more than f1.4 thus using a lens like this can make up a little for the lowlight weakness of the camera and of course provides some more depth of field. Never the less, keep in mind that every lens needs to be stopped down a little to produce a clean image and the small sensor of the BMCC will never look like Super35 in terms of depth of field.
